about the developer
J.H. is the sole developer of Faye Freelance, with Bay Area Sound supporting development with music and additional sound design.
j.h. (AKA J.JONAH.JONAHSON, or just jonah)
I'm the sole developer of Faye Freelance. I've worked in the Games Industry for several years now. My first contribution was animation work for Oddworld: New n' Tasty when I was a starving college student. I later joined Telltale Games in the very beginning of 2015. I worked on several, several titles as both a Cinematic Artist and later a Lead Cinematic Artist. I was there when it collapsed in 2018.
Since the "end" of Telltale, I worked on Star Trek: Resurgence, contributing cinematic work in a similar manner to my days at Telltale. I also worked at the revived Telltale, contributing to in-development work for The Wolf Among Us 2... until a very recent layoff. Rather than do the correct decision and "look" for "jobs" on "LinkedIn," I'm making a desperate attempt to take back my life. Please don't judge me, I have nothing else to live for.
KEY FEATURES ABOUT JONAH
• Went to art school and studied animation. I have a degree but it's somewhere in my closet.
• Isn't on the Forbes 30 under 30 list, or any Forbes list, for that matter. Which means you can trust me, especially with all of your money!
• Supports the videogames labor union movement and will actively fight anyone who doesn't. I own a sword! That means I'm skilled in martial combat! Do not anger me! I'm more powerful than you can ever imagine!
• Is not actually skilled with the sword. You cannot trust me at my word when I talk about my fighting prowess. If you challenge me to an actual duel I will flee as far away as possible. Please, don't listen to the above point, it's wrong, it was careless, I shouldn't have written that
• Put in an easter egg in the second Telltale Batman game that's so obscure that nobody's found it. This one is true.
• Once, I had hopes and dreams, until they were crushed by the reality of the US healthcare system and capitalism in general. I mean, I still have hopes and dreams. They're just a little crushed now, that's all.
about faye freelance
Faye Freelance is my baby, to put it bluntly. I've been working on this, and iterations of it, for years. It's inspired by an old, likely misinterpreted passion of mine: newspapers! And the NEWS. I fell in love with the idealistic thirst for truth and exposing the ills of society—not for the sake of money or fame, but to bring clarity to the public, to take down monsters in power. You know—to comfort the afflicted, afflict the comfortable, all that tasty idealism. I hope to tell a story filled with journalistic determination (and ruthlessness), even in the context of comic absurdity.
I feel the need to clarify that, while I have history working on Telltale and Telltale-style games, Faye Freelance is a fundamentally different type, style, and genre of game. That isn't to say working at Telltale hasn't influenced me; I greatly respect and admire the erstwhile writers who created and wrote some of the most thoughtful, morally complex, and compelling stories at Telltale.
All art is currently done by hand by me, JH. Programming, writing, marketing, and UI is also handled by me. Sound design is my own, but music has been generously provided by Jared Emer-Johnson and mixing support from Bay Area Sound Design. All views, themes, etc. expressed in the game reflect only my own and do not reflect the views of any external people contributing work to it. If you wish to express distaste towards the ideas presented in the game and marketing materials, please direct them specifically at me, JH, and me alone.
Many themes in this game represent my (negative) feelings towards capitalism and various political issues pertaining to the modern-day United States. I believe that Black Lives Matter, that trans women are women, that trans men are men, that women deserve a right to legal abortion, and that teaching about systemic racism is critical for the growth and wellbeing of our society. If you happen to be offended by this, don't support my game.
About the music & sound
The music in the trailer (and hopefully throughout the game) is composed by Jared Emerson-Johnson, of Telltale fame. You might remember his work from The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Batman, Puzzle Agent, the Sam and Max games, and more. He generously provided me with some incredible tunes and helped me mix my trailer with Julian Kwasneski as part of Bay Area Sound. I cannot stress enough how cool these folks are.

additional Development notes
Faye Freelance is made with Game Maker Studio 2.
Various additional libraries and tools are being used in the development of this game. They include:
• Scribble (by JuJu Adams)• Input (by JuJu Adams, Alynne Keith, and Friends) • Iota (by JuJu Adams)• Chatterbox (by JuJu Adams)• Yarn Spinner (from Secret Lab & friends)• Crochet (branched Yarn Editor by FaultyFunctions)• LDtk (by Sébastien Benard, aka “deepnight”)• LDtk_parser (by Evoleo, with additional modification done by me for my specific needs) All above libraries are under the MIT license, unless stated otherwise. The work I am doing on Faye Freelance would be nigh impossible without the efforts of these fine developers, and to them I extend all the gratitude in the world. More libraries will be used and implemented as development continues, and I will update this section with links, credits, and licenses as this happens. All libraries I use in the game will be credited within the final game's release (at the very least!). If one of them isn't it is an honest mistake--let me know and I'll correct it immediately, posthaste, and with great apologies.
